Dr. Marjorie Herrera Lewis is an award-winning sportswriter, novelist, professor, and former college football coach. She was the first female journalist assigned to the Dallas Cowboys beat with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in the 1980s and later wrote for The Dallas Morning News.
Her debut novel, When the Men Were Gone, received multiple literary honors and is being developed into a film. Marjorie has taught at several universities and recently joined the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law faculty at Arizona State University. In 2016, she joined Texas Wesleyan’s football staff, coaching linebackers and defensive backs. She is the newly named commissioner of the Global Pro Flag Football League and co-hosts Journey Through Sports and Entertainment on DBTV, an international streaming network.
A three-time master's degree holder with a doctorate, she is also a former Nashville recording artist and minor-league baseball team co-owner.

Marjorie's debut novel titled, "When the Men Were Gone" is based on the true story of Tylene Wilson, a woman who coached football in Brownwood, Texas, during World War II. The novel is historical fiction and has a deep backstory of war and sacrifice. Marjorie connects her life experience as a Dallas Cowboys beat writer with that of Tylene, who had a wonderful shared love of football and baseball with her father, just as Marjorie had.
Marjorie tells stories of her experience as a Dallas Cowboys beat reporter, and what it was like as the first woman from any news entity to be assigned to cover the Cowboys beat during Tom Landry's last few years and the early years of Jerry and Jimmy.
